What exactly do you mean by "loading the kernel module to use a
high res bitmap"?

This is my loader.rc, are you saying there is am option for the
``load vesa'' line? I've tried bitmaps of 640x480, 800x600, and
1024x768 and they all give an error 19, only 320x200 works.

load /kernel
load vesa
load -t userconfig_script /kernel.config
load -t splash_image_data /dawn.bmp
load splash_bmp
autoboot
