I have:

sa1 at ahc0 bus 0 target 3 lun 0
sa1: <Quantum DLT4000 CC1E> Removable Sequential Access SCSI-2 device 
sa1: 10.000MB/s transfers (10.000MHz, offset 15)

It works fine.  I don't know why it shouldn't work with 2.2.7-RELEASE,
but I'd suggest you upgrade anyway.
