This is fine imho, as long as the maintainer has expressed a wish to resolve all the possible problems of the port; this *is* what maintainership is all about, after all, right? The only really important reservation that I have against this is: how will the maintainer of a port that is not committer find someone to really do the commit and close the PR for him?
