Bingo! How could I forget make.conf. Why where PERL_VERSION entries automatically added to make.conf in the first place. Cheers - aW :Yes, but does /usr/bin/perl5.00503 exist? If not, something weird has :happened, and you should probably reinstall world. Also, make sure you :don't have PERL_VERSION defined to something other than 5.00503 in :/etc/make.conf.
