Hello,

I have CVS-UP configured to follow RELENG_5_4

I was wondering if there is a way to patch (upgrading from 5.4-=20
RELEASE-p8 to a higher version) my system without going into the =20
classic :

# make -j4 buildworld
# make -j4 buildkernel
# make -j4 installkernel
# shutdown now

And booting in single user //

# fsck -p
# mount -u /
# mount -a -t ufs
# swapon -a

# cd /usr/src
# mergemaster -p

My system is in production and I am not onsite so this is a problem =20
for me to have to boot in single user mode.

Is there a way to keep the system in multi-user mode while doing this ?

And what are the risks if any ?

Sincerly yours.
