Hello!

I have a problem with having no sound at all on my notebook with atiixp
sound and hardware volume controller. It seems that this controller
should be activated somehow at boot time. My notebook specs as follows:

uname -a:

FreeBSD swamp.lnet 6.0-RELEASE-p4 FreeBSD 6.0-RELEASE-p4 #3: Sat Feb  4
14:39:37
 UTC 2006     root@swamp.lnet:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/SWAMP  i386

pciconf -vl

pcm0@pci0:20:5: class=0x040100 card=0x2043161f chip=0x43701002 rev=0x02
hdr=0x00
    vendor   = 'ATI Technologies Inc'
    class    = multimedia
    subclass = audio

dmesg | grep pcm:

pcm0: <ATI IXP 400> mem 0xc0503400-0xc05034ff irq 17 at device 20.5 on pci0
pcm0: <Analog Devices AD1981B AC97 Codec>

sysctl hw.snd:

hw.snd.targetirqrate: 32
hw.snd.report_soft_formats: 1
hw.snd.feeder_rate_ratemin: 4000
hw.snd.feeder_rate_ratemax: 1102500
hw.snd.feeder_rate_scaling: 5
hw.snd.feeder_rate_buffersize: 8192
hw.snd.verbose: 1
hw.snd.unit: 0
hw.snd.maxautovchans: 5
hw.snd.pcm0.buffersize: 4096
hw.snd.pcm0.vchans: 1
hw.snd.pcm0.vchanrate: 48000

btw, pre-installed altlinux played sounds in KDE...
