Depending on the type of connection you have, I think you would have
a right to complain to your ISP about it. From my point of view, if
it is a residential, then you're probably out of luck with getting
reverse dns added by your isp. If your network connection is better
than residential dsl, or a cable modem, I'd start complaining to the
isp about it. You have a right to get reverse dns in a commercial
hookup. The only other option, is to use your isp's smtp server to
relay all mail from your network.

I fell into that same situation as you a few months ago. My ISP
decided to add in some more addresses, mine got re-allocated. I have
a new IP, but no reverse dns to it. I just set my fall back mx host
(in sendmail) to be that of one of my data center mail servers. Any
mail that can't be delivered by my local mail server gets sent to
another one for the actual delivery. Try that option, if you don't
have any luck with the isp.

this is a problem in regards to FreeBSD maillists.
FBSD maillists do a DNS lookup on any host sending
email. my ISP refuses to pass on DNS queries to
my server, so clients on my network cannot
have their name->number mappings answered.

i have had this problem for years, and
the ISP is the major telephone/communications
company for the city. i don't guess i have any
"rights" to force them to pass on DNS queries
to my server - so what can i do???

(besides change ISPs, there are various reasons
why that is an unacceptable solution).
