I've moved this discussion to the doc list. To sumarrize, the changes in
question are:
* outtakes -> out takes
Agreed, outtakes should have been left--I was hesitant to change this.
* manpages -> man pages
I changed this for additional consistency throughout our doc tree. A
checkout from 48 hours ago reveals:

* Blinkenlights -> blinking lights
Perhaps this change should be reverted too, although I have never heard
the term, probably since I'm on the younger side of the FreeBSD crowd.
* harddisks -> hard disks
Again, consistency. 78 instances of "hard disk" and 5 of "harddisk"
* disasserting -> dis-asserting (for lack of a better word)
disasserting is not in the Merriam Webster dictionary. The closest
suggestion is "disserting," which does not serve as an antonym for
asserting. At the time, I could not think of a better word.
From the serial-uart article, the sentence:
"For example, when the device
connected to the UART is a modem, the modem may report the
presence of a carrier on the phone line while the computer
may be able to instruct the modem to reset itself or to not
take calls by asserting or disasserting one more of these
extra signals."
makes perfect sense. Only problem is, disasserting is not a word. I'm
open for suggestions.
* hardcoding -> hard coding
Agreed, change should not have been made.
* placeholder -> place holder
Ditto.
I ran an ispell-based spellcheck script i wrote for the handbook against
the rest of the doc tree to find these errors. Unfortunately, ispell's
dictionary isn't as comprehensive as I would like it to be, but it has
served its purpose well. I looked up many of the words online, leaving
some, and fixing most.
However, I am confident to say that our English doc tree is now over 99%
correct. My script probably missed a few, but the number of spelling
errors and typos fixed is a big step forward for us all.
