Im not 100% sure this is the right place to mention this, but as someone who
doesnt spend much time on irc, and went there finding no answer to their
question , but many people with simple questions who could be helped,
I spend most of my time with FreeBSD porting/developing software , and dont
have much trouble fixing a port which is marked as broken. I realize the
FreeBSD project probably doesnt have responsibiltiy for #freebsd on efnet ,
which garners more sarcastic and demoralizing comments to stupid questions in
which "man blech" would be much more helpful. but even irc.freebsd.org is much
the same.
Personally I dont really need the help, found what i wanted in the handbook
shortly after asking on EFnet #freebsd and seeing the responses. God I feel
guilty and moronic after asking, and finding it in the handbook.
My main thing is if there is going to be a irc.freebsd.org, the freebsd.org
project should distance itself from any other irc networks and jerks who could
be quiet as opposed to offering sarcastic insults shouldn't be on
irc.freebsd.org#freebsd
like I said to a few on EFnet, I have never used linux but i bet a small part
of its popularity is that you can go on #linux and not feel belittled and
small-minded for asking what may be a simple question to some. Despite this I'm
not switching from FreeBSD I find it more intelligently arranged than our
solaris and linux machines, I am just commenting on my experience on irc.

thanks, whatever.
