Hello,

using a IBM DDRS-34560 drive connected to externally to my
Adaptec 2940 on a "classic" (== non-CAM) system, I get the
following error-messages when booting:

ahc0 <Adaptec 2940 Ultra SCSI host adapter> rev 1 int a irq 9 on pci0:8:0
        mapreg[10] type=1 addr=0000e800 size=0100.
        mapreg[14] type=0 addr=e7020000 size=1000.
        reg16: ioaddr=0xe800 size=0x100
ahc0: Reading SEEPROM...checksum error

uk0(ahc0:2:0): Unknown
ahc0: board is not responding
(ahc0:2:1): SCB 0x1 timedout while recovery in progress
ahc0: board is not responding

(ahc0:2:1): SCB 0x2 timedout while recovery in progress
(ahc0:2:1): "unknown unknown ????" type 13 fixed SCSI 0
uk1(ahc0:2:1): Unknown

At this point I switched off the drive and everything continued
normally.
Disabling parity checking in the BIOS of the controller doesn't
help, as FreeBSD seems to enable it again (at least it is enabled
again when I boot again and check in the BIOS).
I would blame the drive to be broken or something similar, the
weird thing is that I can use the drive without any problems with
Windows 98 on the same machine.
I guess this all is some easy "standard" problem, but I wasn't
able to find anything in the archives for this list.
